Trade Promotion

Articles 50 of the ECOWAS Revised Treaty identifies Trade Promotion as a necessary tool for the achievement of the objectives for the union. Specifically, article 50 2 a) makes reference to the ‘organization, on a regular basis of an ECOWAS Trade Fair’.

To promote trade and in fulfillment of the referenced and relevant articles, ECOWAS has formulated a number of initiatives including Regional Trade Fairs Regional; Business Fairs and Regional Business Associations.

As January 2020, ECOWAS had organized seven (7) regional trade fairs with the first one held in Dakar, Senegal in 1995.

In addition to the Trade Fairs (Regional and National) Article 50 1 b) stresses the participation in “…fairs organized within the region, sectoral trade fairs regional trade fairs and other similar activities.’

ECOWAS Business Fairs are to promote and foster collaboration among businesses in the region and to provide information on and enhance B2B and B2C interaction, linkages and growth at the regional level.

This section catalogues the various Fairs held in the region as well as existing Business Associations in the region
